The main property, Laureldale Cabin, is a beautiful log home situated in the foothills of the Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains, built in 1999 and used as a vacation rental property since 2003 until its acquisition in 2016 by the Davenant Institute. A second property, Ridgeview House, situated a quarter mile away, will be rented by the Davenant Institute for our summer programs initially as dormitory and library space, with a hope to purchase it as an addition to the property in the longer term.
Both houses are on a roughly 150-acre wooded estate near Lake Lanier, that borders the Palmetto Trail, South Carolina’s mountains-to-the-sea trail. The woodland, which is renowned for its horticultural diversity, is slated for an ecologically-friendly development project in the next few years, with most of the land retained in a land conservation trust. Students in residence at Davenant House will have the opportunity to help improve and maintain woodland trails on the property.
The property is situated in northern Greenville County, SC, just two miles from the charming town of Tryon, NC. The vibrant cities of Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC, both of which have witnessed extraordinary pedestrian-friendly development initiatives in recent years, and have become thriving cultural centers, are less than an hour away, along with numerous historic sights and the breathtaking mountain wilderness of the Pisgah National Forest.
