Jesus as Teacher

$99.00

Within this course, we will explore the manner of Jesus’ teaching, its content, and the way that it relates both to the various forms of teaching found in the Old Testament and to later teaching in the New. By the end of the course, you should have a firmer grasp upon the importance of Jesus’ teaching, its connection with his work, its deep rootedness in—yet transformation of—the teaching of the Old Testament, and the way that the rest of the New Testament bears the marks of it throughout.

Description

Although a significant percentage of the gospels are devoted to Jesus’ teaching, the teaching of Jesus can often be undervalued in many conservative Christian contexts. Concerned lest Jesus the Savior be reduced to Jesus the Moral Teacher, some have downplayed its significance. Others have been perplexed by its seeming differences of emphasis from the subsequent teaching of the Apostle Paul and the early Church. And many others have found the parables and prophesies of Christ challenging to understand.
