Intermediate Latin Readings II

This course will build on Intermediate Latin Reading I, incorporating the basics of poetry, increased grammar and vocab, and educational games, with large amounts of spoken Latin.

Description

This Language course will be taught by Charles Carman, and will run from January 10th though March 19th 2022. The syllabus will be available here soon.

Building on Intermediate Latin Reading I, this course introduces students to fundamentals of Latin poetry, drawing on Vergil, Ovid, Christian authors such as Boethius, through to early modern authors. Students will continue to review grammar and vocab, enjoying educational games that 15th-century Latin students would have played. Students will memorize a few lines of Latin poetry, and will a base to continue writing, reading, and listening to Latin.


Charles Carman (MA, New St. Andrew’s College) is the resident language instructor at The Davenant Institute, and is highly accomplished in multiple ancient languages.


Online only, runs 10 weeks, meeting 1.5 hrs./wk. via Zoom. Students will also be able to participate in class discussion in the Davenant Common Room Discord server.
