Intermediate Latin Courses

Intermediate Theological Latin Reading, Part II (Tutorial)

A one-on-one program of instruction guiding you through intermediate Latin readings in the Medieval and Reformation periods.

Description

This course will build upon what you have achieved in LAT 601, further solidifying your knowledge of Latin grammar, strengthening and broadening your vocabulary, particularly for reading theological texts, and improving your reading and translation skills. You will master the vocabulary from Richard Muller’s Dictionary of Latin and Greek Theological Terms, will review grammar with the aid of Randall Meissen’s Scholastic Latin, and will read and translate passages from the Vulgate, the Tremellius-Junius-Beza Latin Bible, and from a range of theologians throughout church history (including Augustine, Calvin, and Beza). The tutorial version of this course allows you to begin whenever you are ready and proceed at your own pace, following a schedule arranged with your tutor. You will meet sixteen times for 1 hr. to discuss the material with your tutor and receive feedback on submitted assignments.
